Why The NFL Is So Different From College Football For Players

The NFL is arguably one of the hardest leagues to break into and if two guys know what it takes, it’ll be two former NFL players. Pat McAfee and AJ Hawk discussed one of the factors that differentiate the NFL from college football on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’.

  1. Keep them honest Pat, my n.!!!
You and Ray Guy are NFL HOF punters.
I’ll challenge anyone to a slapping contest to prove me wrong.
    Did I say I’ll need a helmet.
But, seriously, you and Ray are the only punters the belong in the NFL HOF.
    👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿👍🏿👌🏿🫵🏿💥

  2. What I can’t believe is that Corey Ross, Abdul Mohammed, Rex Burkhead all came out of Nebraska and now we don’t even have a back that gets 400yds per season

  3. What’s crazy to me is that football players drafted out of college will play on an NFL team their rookie year. Not all but a lot. Baseball players drafted out of college still have a few years of minor league play to hone the craft before being major league ready in his mid 20s. You’d think it’d be the opposite.

  4. I mean it was now the NFL has become the college game but why would pat actually know what he’s talking about he’s only a former player oh never mind I’m sorry a punter

  5. First of all, great points all around. Second of all, but most importantly…. We have no experts when it comes to football as far as TV goes. It just gets worse every year. They either have no clue, or just spew what the top office says to spew and the top office has never watched a game in their life.

I know guys that don’t own a tv that know more about football and what’s going on than anyone on ESPN.

  6. As a jets fan felt that last take. Cause the amount of dickriding that happened for Zach is crazy. Who knows maybe he pops out tho

  7. This is why I’m convinced literally anyone can be an nfl scout. We’d be able to pick hall of famers, pro bowlers, and busts just as well as nfl scouts. Sign me up NFL! RIGHT NOW.

  8. It’s because not all players can play by script…..NFL is all scripted…Rodger Goodell even let cat out the bag

  9. Because not every person on a college team is a top tier athlete. Everybody that makes it to the NFL is among the top 5% of college football athletes.

  10. Pat: Mr. Polian I have held for kicks before
Also Pat: Adam I gotta be real with you here I’ve never held a day in my Life

  11. Pat’s wrong on this one. Lebron definitely had a feeling Tom Brady was going to be the greatest quarterback of all time.

  12. For the record Darious Leonard is from South Carolina State University. We had 4 NFL hall of famers. My small school continuously puts out talent. Especially on defense. Most recent high profile player. Javon Hargrave. So if your team is signing a player from SCSU he’s probably a hidden gem.

  13. Never played pro anything. But I did play sports all the way thru high school. My personal experience showed me that some things don’t translate. Whether it’s a certain move or little trucks that work on lower levels that don’t work against the best of the best. Coming that with the speed of the game increasing and most people just can’t think and react that fast

  14. I picked one guy that was in college playing to make it into the pro football hall of fame. That was Calvin Johnson and specifically remember the play that told me it would happen and that was the catch he made while reaching back while playing against NC State. He should be in the HOF who cares if he retired early he was that dominate.

  15. All that needs to be said is these "experts" made an argument that Ryan Leaf should go number 1 over Peyton Manning

  16. Ok, Pat so you’re telling me that we never saw guys like Peyton Manning, Eric Dickerson, Jim Brown, Troy Aikman, Barry Sanders, or Walter Payton coming?? Like these guys were ginormous question marks about being NFL prospects. Great take bro.

  17. To their credit they are typically right about most players. Of course they are gonna get some wrong haha but yeah some of them just go overboard with what they say.

  18. Football is also dangerous AF. There’s a different mindset to do it professionally. When college players get to the Big League they might take a fast hit and think twice about their life. Giovanni Carmazzi was taken by the Niners over Brady. His first game was tragic to say the least. He was the biggest, strongest QB of his Draft but the NFL is a different game. He was just another guy with the ball. Mentally, he never adjusted. The lights were too bright. The defenses too fast and dangerous.

  19. Lots of guys never reach their full potential until they get into the pros because the lower levels never fully tested them. Necessity is the mother of innovation, as they say.

  20. There was a coach a while back who moved from college up to the pros as a head coach, and after one of his games, a reporter asked him “what’s the difference between coaching in college and coaching in the NFL? Has the transition been hard at all“ and he said “man it’s like playing a national championship team every week”

  21. NFL teams are comprised of All College All stars … A College team might have 1 -3 players that are all stars..

  22. Everybody in the NFL is an elite athlete. It’s all about the mental side. Making quick decisions, but most importantly being able to overcome mistakes, because there will be many mistakes made. Most players, especially QBs, have their confidence completely shattered when they can’t rely on simply being the most athletic person on the field anymore.
