Quinn Hughes being left off this list 5 months ago is crazy he had 76 points the previous year never less than 40 in his start to his career he’s getting into the beginning of his prime he’s the best defenseman in the league rn and he can play it both ways as he’s second in the entire nhl for +/-

You can tell at least one of them has watched Kaprizov play.
Im a leaf fan but I have a problem with Mathews. He’s amazing at scoring obviously, and yet there is a reason he does t score nearly enough in playoffs. And that reason is because he is basically a one trick pony.
From a strategic standpoint attackers are bigger threats when they actually have more than one viable threat. Even if that one threat is super good, you only need to run into a single team who has figured out the best way to defend it. Defending something that you are %99 sure is coming is the best position for a defending team to be in.
This is why when he scores almost 70 reg season goals, I’m still not impressed. All the best players in the league that he usually gets compared to are more dangerous than him because they present multiple viable threats and know how to feign in and use the other to great effect. Mathews simply does not have this ability, at least as of now.
