Thanks for this Rory. Curious to know, what level is the team you are coaching shownin this video? Are they a regular ‘club’ side or are they a representative side / development squad etc?
Any ideas for set plays off of the kick off?
Hi can i ask do you use half a pitch. From the goal line to the half way line?
Thanks for the great content, how do you adpat this to 9vs9 (u11/u12)
Thank you so much for your videos. Theyβre incredibly helpful!! Any chance you could share training tips for U10 goalkeepers?

hooray for these progressions! πππ
Iβm Ibrahim Iβm an Africa Iβm really passionate about becoming a Soccer Coach.
Can you please help me with personal lectures please
What camera set up do you use to record sessions/games? And do you ever show your players game/session footage?
Coach Rory, my U13 boys struggle to score goals even though they ALWAYS dominating games but end up playing goalless draws or losing by conceding a goal. They can’t/won’t shoot/attempt to score no matter how many times i urge them to, the other thing is that their shooting technique is poor and they don’t have or put power behind their shots. All this i have drills to improve but nothing
What do you do if the DEF wins the ball?
Hello coach Rory, just want to thank you. You have helped me grow so much as a parent coach. I love to teach my 9 yos and you have made that enjoyable for me and especially my 9 yo boys.
Just what I needed! I am following your instructions from "IMPROVE your youth soccer training sessions" video and going straight from Rondos to Pattern Choreography/Pattern Play was a little bit of a reach. This bridges that gap nicely, especially with the 2v1, 3v2, and 4v3 as incremental steps. It is also flexible to the number of players as you can run two groups for more reps easily. Thanks!
Hi Coach, I’m excited to give the 2v1 a try with my new team tomorrow. I just have one question. I understand not having the CB run up for a give n go but rather stay in position for support. But then we are telling the CB it’s ok to dribble and take that space all the way up past the winger if it’s available? Does the winger then need to see that and drop back for support? I guess I’m worried they will be confused that the CB shouldn’t go up on a give n go but that they CAN go up on a dribble. Thanks so much!!
Hi Rory. Do you have any pre-game / pre-training routines that you use? I’m not meaning the warm-up actions, but more of the intangibles to create a positive team environment e.g like high fives in the group huddle, everyone wishing each other a good game, those sort of things.
thanks for this video!
it is clear how to start with building up from the back. I have tried this and it is working when we focus only on doing this during the training sessions. But during the game I am facing the following issues.
1-Players try to play quite fast and rush too much
2-They get too stress and forget what they need to do (where to pass and where to stay on the field)
3-Bad/Lack communication (bigger problem)
what would you suggest to improve above? as they try to drible instead of passing. This leads to many individual attemps rather than just stop look and pass the ball.
I train an U9 team and we play 8 vs 8
Great stuff. Keep it up
Nice jersey!
I’m about to use this in a session, so we’ll see how I do. One thing I might change will be where the defender is starting out. We never have the defender coming at our CB from midfield… usually at the top of the box. There is urgency when the CB gets the ball. They are almost always under high pressure. I’m going to move the Defender to near the top of the box to more accurately reflect what I’m seeing in my 9v9 games.
Big fan of this one!
HI coach Rory. How would you do it in a GK+4v4+GK situation? Cause that’s how we play here with U8-9 in Rec League.
Does the play reset if the ball goes out of bounds?
Thanks coach Rory. Your 7v7 videos have been fantastic for my very green U10s team. We have been learning to build out from the back and last week we played a well-organised team who put us under pressure but my boys did fantastic thanks to your instruction. The other parents thought I was Pep Guardiola! If you have more videos on mid-field transitions (e.g., breakdown play?) then that would be fantastic! But thanks for your amazing efforts – much appreciated!
Excellent breakdown, step by step emphasizing key points and thank you.
I’m coaching an U7 team in the fall. What age range do you recommend starting to coach building out from the back? Love the channel!
In 7 a side will CB stay this much close to GK ?. Usually when keeper has the ball , CB go wide to receive and the position of full back will be higher than this .
Great drills. 3vs 2 is a jey situation in all phases of the game, not only build-out
I need this session for my U11. I love your content. Can this work for 9v9?
Do you recommend doing this with older kids like U12-14?
Coach, what does this look like for the 9v9 level? Is it much different if you plan on running a 4-31? You still have that CB & FB back relationship in the build out, is there an additional progression to bring in the #8 & #10?
Coach, so do you introduce these breakdowns before teaching complete build-out patterns?
