Daily Fantasy Sports: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)
Daily fantasy sports sites claim they are not gambling enterprises, but they seem awfully…gamblish.
If only their ads were more truthful.

2015, the time before everything was about a selfish, smug liar who doesn’t know he’s the biggest loser on earth. with a following of idiots behaving like a cult…. those were times when everything wasn’t about how stupidly bad he took that loss in 2020… IT’S BEEN FOUR YEARS YOU MANGO DICTATOR! YOU!!!….
just tried it, birdy fact funny man still works.
That guy’s wife called him out on it and she was absolutely correct. I shot Coke Cola out of my nostrils. when she said is there anything worse than a divorce we can get?
Thanks John Oliver that was Totally hilarious.
Now NFL Stadiums literally have sports books in them and the actual games by the NFL are brought to you by every conceivable actual gambling company. Not daily fantasy.
"If we’re going to defacto legalize sports gambling we should at least do it on purpose."
Monkey’s paw curls.
And now, Prop bets, on anything, live while the thing’s in progress. For example, Vegas has the over/under for John saying Holy Shit in this episode, at 1.5. Going in, I’d say over.
At 17:27, when she says, "You spent $18 printing this at Kinkos." There is no possibility he could have had that printed AND mounted on a board for $18. Doing something like that would normally cost around $70
Yeah right Isla Fisher is WAAAAAAY hotter than Amy Adams. Isla is basically my dream girl
Gambling in sports I’m so surprised
The irony with MLB’s partnership with Draft Kings is that Pete Rose has been banned for over 40 years for gambling. They won’t even give him his rightful place in the HOF.
I’m glad that they’re named the 49ers and not to 69ers
To clarify why they asked Joe Namath if it was gambling , that he wouldn’t hesitate to call it that. There was an effort to bar him from the NFL from management and owners. Because he was with a joint-business partner that had a previous conviction for gambling. Being a partner a with known gamblers. So in effect Joe Namath is showing the hypocrisy that has always existed between owners and players.
The Janice from accounting joke is relatable. I once narrowly beat my former boss at a NCAA March Madness office pool. My boss at that time was a skinny nerd from Nepal who I’m willing to bet has never held a basketball in his life.
If John Oliver were the next James Bond I might actually watch it..
Former poker pro / current day trading pro here…
If a fair player can turn a profit over an infinite sample, it isn’t gambling. Or, absolutely *everything* is gambling.
You can’t define an activity as "gambling" because it features an element of chance. You define it as "gambling" when *every player* has a negative expectation over an infinite sample. Otherwise, every speculative activity – real estate, mining, hedge funds, etc. – would also be classified as gambling. But they’re not. Why? Because skill can, and routinely does, overcome the presence of any and all chance elements within those fields.
The USA needs to get its shit together. It’s been almost two decades since UIGEA, and still, online poker is not organized at the national level. Almost every other country figured it out by now. Online poker desperately needs all those losers back! lol
This better be a joke, you leaving would be heartbreaking
Namath is king haha
WTF😂
And now gambling is completely out of control in sports.
Damn, it’s crazy how much more lighthearted he is here in 2015 compared to now 2025, at least while I’m 3 minutes into the video. I think the show’s team has had to take some things much more seriously these days. It’s interesting to think about.
It’s 💯 Gambling
Wait, its not vapour lock?
What the ?
Secular humanism is a philosophy, belief system, or life stance that embraces human reason, logic, secular ethics, and philosophical naturalism, while specifically rejecting religious dogma, supernaturalism, and superstition as the basis of morality and decision making.
Secular humanism posits that human beings are capable of being ethical and moral without religion or belief in a deity. It does not, however, assume that humans are either inherently good or evil, nor does it present humans as being superior to nature. Rather, the humanist life stance emphasizes the unique responsibility facing humanity and the ethical consequences of human decisions. Fundamental to the concept of secular humanism is the strongly held viewpoint that ideology be it religious or political must be thoroughly examined by each individual and not simply accepted or rejected on faith. Along with this, an essential part of secular humanism is a continually adapting search for truth, primarily through science and philosophy.
My work do a fantasy premier league fantasy league. Me and the data team are normally 1st, 2nd, 3rd each season
John sucked during lockdowns, he really needs an audience, and no plandemics in sight. I unsubbed back then but now resubbed.
PS: Covid is the Fort Detrick disease, masks don’t work, and I can happily say that my blood is still pure and of high value in the medical world (unlike vaxxed blood which is useless). The joke is on believers, per usual. Jesus also still not back 😂
how about we make gambling illegal or limit how much you can invest into it?
Football. Football is really just political social conceptualism based on logos. There are really only three teams that encompass everything, being the Steelers, the Ravens, and the Chargers, in that order of importance. These dumb Chargers would finally get drafted into a real team. You know what I mean! Putting the Ravens in Baltimore was an act of genius that really plots out the U.S. map into relevance. The Raiders versus the Saints would finally declare a winner and there would be a new team logo based on information, The Compasses or The Levelers or something. The Levers. The Advantages. Whatever.
I’d go fully ape shit over "Aversi0n t0 Vio7ence," I’ll be perfectly honest
They make such an effort to make casinos so unentertaining too.
Janice in accounting is wearing a pink penguin shirt! I like Janice in accounting!
And here we are on April 24, 2025 and to say we are shocked, yes shocked, to see gambling in all sports, is quite the understatement.
The disappointment I felt when I found out Daily Fantasy Sports wasn’t Quidditch
Wait till John hears about gacha games
This is over 8 years old and these companies not only still are allowed, but they’re making crazy money and it seems like public perception hasn’t changed, so everyone is just accepting this
I’m in a daily fan duel with a cheese danish and I’m on a really long losing streak.
Oh boy. How the industry has taken over the last 8 years. Lmao. Id love to see a follow up on some of these topics.
random seth cameo is epic lol
interesante
Fantasy sports is exactly that a fantasy. and it’s another form of gambling. like there isn’t enough forms gambling already. the definition of the word gambling. is if you pay money and win money?
Yea, youre the noob. Commie.
It’s totally gambling. They use the term, "sports book" for the love of God!
wtf I’m actually beginning to wonder if Janice in Accounting is an actual person that works for HBO
06:47 I can confirm, birdy fact funny man leads to last week tonight’s website. sometimes I’m in awe by how unhinged his office is 🤣🤣
16:17 😂😂😂
I cant believe a Brit said Jagwar!
Banging one out is a game of skill GFY daily fantasy 💯🤣
